“Facebook viruses”, as they are commonly known, have become extremely prevalent these days. Symptoms include posts you did not write, sending of messages with spammy links to your friends, creating events, and much more. Why does this happen, and what can you do about it?
Most people seem to call this a facebook virus. However, they are spammers taking control over your account in various ways, and using it to spread their spam. They may have hijacked your password or authorized a session in your account for themselves. Therefore, it’s up to you to stop this spam.
Here are some steps you can take to take control over your Facebook account and stop it from sending spam to your friends.
- The most crucial step is to change your password. If somebody has hijacked your account, you can prevent continual problems by changing your password. To change your password, visit your Facebook settings and select the password tab.
NOTE: If you are unable to log in to your account, visit https://www.facebook.com/hacked to regain control over your account.
- After changing your password, go to the Security tab in your Facebook settings (right under “General”).
- Go to “Where You’re Logged In”, and select “End Activity” for any session that you don’t recognize. If you want to be extremely safe, remove all the sessions present and log back in one device at at time.
- Finally, go to your account and mark the post as spam. Then, delete the spam post so that nobody else will click on the malicious links.
